Jamshedpur, June 23, 2024: Tata Steel is proud to announce the 4th All India FIDE Rated Special Abled Tata Steel Chess Championship 2024, to be held from June 24 to 28, 2024 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur.
This inclusive chess event aims to provide a platform for chess players with disabilities across India to showcase their talent and passion for the game. Approximately 65 players from 14 states are expected to participate in this championship.
This tournament marks another significant achievement in Tata Steel’s ongoing support for chess and its commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and accessibility within the chess community.

The championship follows the successful Tata Steel Asian Junior Open and Girls Chess Championship 2023, held at the same venue last year. Tata Steel is dedicated to promoting an environment of equal opportunity and inclusivity in the chess community.
Tata Steel’s involvement with chess dates back many years, demonstrating the company’s commitment to promoting intellectual pursuits and strategic thinking. In 1989, Tata Steel established its first Chess Training Centre in Jamshedpur, which has since nurtured over 4,000 students, some as young as three and a half to fifteen years of age. Many of these aspirants have gone on to earn national recognition.
The 4th All India FIDE Rated Special Abled Tata Steel Chess Championship 2024 aims to create an inclusive experience that celebrates the inherent talent and determination of specially abled chess enthusiasts. The company is grateful to Mr. Thipsey, Bharat Chouhan, the Jharkhand Association officials, and the chief arbitrators for their valuable time and guidance in organizing this championship.
