Ranchi, April 28, 2024: Tata Steel’s Noamundi Iron Mine and Vijaya-II Iron Mine in Jharkhand stood out, securing an impressive tally of 10 awards at the 30th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) week’s culminating ceremony, held under the auspices of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) in Ranchi on Saturday.
The spotlight shone on Noamundi Iron Mine, which clinched the prestigious title in the Overall Performance category within the A-1 group of mines. Adding to its glory, the mine also emerged victorious in three other significant categories: Mineral Conservation, Mineral Beneficiation, and Sustainable Development within the same group.

In a testament to its commitment to environmental stewardship, Noamundi Iron Mine bagged runner-up accolades in the Afforestation and Reclamation & Rehabilitation segments under the A-1 group.
Meanwhile, Vijaya-II Iron Mine soared to success, securing the top spot in Systematic and Scientific Mining, while also clinching runner-up positions in Waste Dump Management and Publicity and Propaganda within the A-1 group.
Tata Steel further showcased its dedication to conservation efforts through a first-place finish in the stall display category, spotlighting its unwavering commitment to mining and environmental preservation.
Controller of Mines
The esteemed awards were conferred upon Tata Steel officials by Shailendra Kumar, Controller of Mines, Eastern Zone, IBM, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The event, attended by representatives from 31 mines across the state, saw a total of 75 awards bestowed across various categories, underscoring the industry’s collective commitment to responsible mining practices.
