Tata Steel’s FAMD Extends Support for Peacock Conservation at Peacock Valley

Bhubaneswar, November 13, 2024: Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental conservation, employees of Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) organized a volunteer initiative to support the peacock population at Peacock Valley near Naraj village, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. As part of this volunteer effort, employees donated grains, durable grain storage cans, and other essential supplies to help sustain the peacocks in their natural habitat.

The FAMD team connected with Kanhu Charan Behera, a local resident who has been feeding the peacocks for several years, to deliver these essential supplies. The initiative aimed to support the national bird by ensuring it has access to consistent nourishment. Employees visited the valley, handed over the supplies to Behera, and spent time observing the majestic birds gathering for food.

Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge of FAMD, expressed pride in the initiative, stating, “We are happy to play a small part in supporting the peafowl population at Naraj, and I believe this volunteer-driven initiative will contribute positively to the spirit of care and responsibility for our national bird. Our humble effort is a token of gratitude towards the conservation of the species, which holds great cultural significance for us.”

Peacock Valley, known for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, is home to a thriving population of peacocks and other wildlife. Through this initiative, Tata Steel reinforces its commitment not only to industrial excellence but also to preserving and enriching the natural ecosystems around it, making a meaningful impact on biodiversity conservation.
