Jamshedpur, August 8, 2024 – Students from over 25 city schools in Jamshedpur are set to launch a groundbreaking book focusing on cleanliness, hygiene, and waste management. This effort aligns with the nationwide “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” (Clean India Mission). The initiative, titled “Swachhta Samvaad,” is spearheaded by Tata Steel UISL in collaboration with The Hyphen and Potli Productions, aiming to engage and inspire the young minds of Jamshedpur to take an active role in promoting cleanliness and sustainability.
The campaign kicked off with an essay writing competition across the city’s schools, encouraging students to share their visions for a cleaner Jamshedpur. Participants explored best practices, identified challenges, and proposed solutions for improving cleanliness within their communities. The enthusiastic response to this competition has set a strong foundation for this youth-driven approach to social development.
Approximately 3,000 students participated in the essay writing competition, with each school nominating their two best writers. These selected students attended a two-day, in-person masterclass on creative writing, held on August 6-7, 2024, in Jamshedpur. Led by thematic experts, the masterclass focused on diverse writing styles, storytelling techniques, and effective expression of ideas.
Building on the skills acquired during the masterclass, the students have created a collection of stories and essays. These works have been compiled into a publication titled “Swachhta Samvaad,” which showcases the creative and insightful perspectives of Jamshedpur’s youth on waste management and cleanliness.
This initiative not only enhances the writing skills of young student writers but also emphasizes the importance of community-driven efforts for social change. By using creative media as a tool for expression, the program empowers students to address various social issues and contribute to positive change in their communities.
