About International Archives Day
The International Council of Archives (ICA) in 2007 decided that this 9th June would be celebrated as International Archives Day. All around the world, archival community professionals come together to explain to the world at large why supporting archives and the profession is so important. The primary objectives are to increase public awareness of the importance of records and archives, raise awareness among decision-makers of the benefits of records management for good governance and development, make the public and private sectors fully conscious of the need for long-term archival preservation and access, showcase the unique and rare documents preserved in archival institutions, and enhance the global image and profile of records and archives.
