Today on 15th May 2024, a one-day workshop on the prospect of design education was organized at NIT Jamshedpur to develop a new master’s degree program in PRODUCT DESIGN. The PRODUCT DESIGN course will be interdisciplinary, where students from M.A., M.Sc., and M.Com, as well as B.Tech, B. Arch, and B.Fa, can enroll. In this course, students will learn various aspects of product Design, Design Thinking, Design Methodology, Animation Film Making, Product Detailing, etc.. This course will not be restricted to engineering only. Instead, students from arts and commerce backgrounds can also enroll on this.
In this workshop, three eminent experts gave their valuable directions. These experts are Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das, IIT Guwahati, Prof. Punnet Tandon, IIITDM Jabalpur, Prof. Abhijit Padun, CIT Kokrajhar. The experts have emphasized on the practical aspects and discussed the two years regular as well as three years regular evening program.
The workshop started with the opening remark of Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur who has been the main architect behind. The Head of the Mechanical department, Prof. Sanjay introduced the proposed course on Product Design. A course structure was presented by Dr. Ashok Mandal, Co-ordinator of the workshop. Deans, HODs, and other faculty members have also provided valuable input to develop this course. In this workshop, Prof. R.V Sharma, Deputy Director; Prof. M.K Sinha, Dean of Research and Consultancy; Prof. Prabha Chand, Dean of Faculty Welfare; Prof. Raj Ballav, HOD Production& Industrial Engineering, and Prof. Shailendra Kumar were also present.
