Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems Hosts Enlightening Workshop at NIT Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) at NIT Jamshedpur organized a one-day workshop titled “Know Your India Through Traditional Indian Knowledge Systems” today. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Honourable Director, Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, alongside esteemed chief guest Pandit Ram Narayan Sharma, Dr. Om Prakash Pandey, Prof. Shalendra Kumar (Chairman of IKS), and Prof. Ram Vinay Sharma.

In his welcome address, Prof. Sutradhar emphasized the necessity of integrating Indian cultural and spiritual values into the education system. He elaborated on the significance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, aiming to foster holistic student development and national progress.

The workshop featured a series of insightful presentations from distinguished speakers. Pandit Ram Narayan Sharma, a renowned astrologer, demystified the ancient astrological system and its relevance in today’s world. He emphasized the importance of the 16 sanskaras (sacraments) in Indian tradition, which mark significant milestones in a person’s life. Pandit Sharma highlighted the profound impact of human actions, both accumulated and current, on overall well-being.

Dr. Om Prakash Pandey delved into the complexities of the universe, exploring the nasdiya sukta from the Rigveda. He discussed the ancient hymn’s contemplation on creation, questioning whether it was an act of divine will or self-formation, and the role of the supreme Brahma as the all-pervasive and all-knowing entity.

Dr. Prem Lata Devi focused on the rich cultural heritage and the significant roles of women in traditional Indian systems. She underscored the prestigious positions women held in ancient times and their continued relevance and importance in the modern era.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Manish Kumar Jha, the convener of IKS, who expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants for making the workshop a success.
